Clarice Cliff was an extraordinary woman. Her striking, colourful and innovative designs have made her a household name and in May 2003 one of her most famous pieces was sold at Christie’s for almost forty thousand pounds. Her vibrant and joyful designs represented the new modern spirit of the 1930’s for women and the play charts her rise from humble working-class beginnings to art director of a famous commercial firm. In public she was described as one of the romances of the pottery trade, but her private life concealed a heart wrenching secret which could have ruined her.
The show is produced by Phoenix Art.
