Newest and Upcoming Exhibitions
We are stepping into spring with our newly opened Katharine Swailes and Caron Penney: The Language of Weaving exhibition which is accompanied by a Meet the Artists Talk (31 March) and Tapestry Weaving Demonstration with Katharine Swailes (9 April) hosted in the Flora Twort Gallery included with admission ticket. Events are free for Museum Friends and Supporters!
Inspired by the exhibition and hosted by Caron Penney, learn the ancient technique of tapestry weaving or hone your skills with our Artist-Led Workshops. Explore the artistry of colour blending or develop your technique with geometric shapes and lettering to build your weaving techniques. Space is limited so be sure to book your place early!
Join us 15 June 2024 for our highly anticipated exhibition Peggy Guggenheim: Petersfield to Palazzo. Delve into the extraordinary life of the 20th-century self-proclaimed 'art addict' who called Yew Tree Cottage near Petersfield home from 1934 to 1939. This exhibition aims to explore the multitude of literary, artistic, and intellectual figures of the period with whom Guggenheim interacted and reveal the fascinating untold story of her life in the town and neighbouring West Sussex through her family, friends, and lovers.
Easter Holiday Family Events
With Easter Holiday just around the corner, keep your family busy with our upcoming Family Events. Get crafty as a family with our Creative Saturday family workshops inspired by our exhibitions and collection displays-- stamp and print your own Easter cards, try your hand at weaving or construct your own concertina sketchbook to fill with drawings!
Explore the classical drama tradition of Kathakali in our Kathakali Drama and Mask-Making Workshop (12 April). Led by The Kala Chethena Kathakali Company, the leading Kathakali group outside of India, this workshop offers an education look at this tradition and has fun with an inspired mask-making workshop (suitable for ages 7+ years old).
As Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery celebrates our 25th birthday year, we are kicking it Back to the 90s with our Family Fun Day (13 April) and Toddler Takeover (15 April). We are going to party like it's 1999 with a nostalgic disco, flashback 90s activities and crafts that will make you feel like a kid again. Great for ages 5-12 years old!
Live Music and Theatre
Join us for our ongoing Live Music and Theatre programme. Hosted in our historic Courthouse, our intimate venue also has a fully licensed bar located in our Coffee Shop-- the perfect way to start your weekend with some friends!
Our Live Music events focus on bringing you acoustic and folk singer-song writers and bands from across Hampshire. Join us for some upcoming evenings of great music with Krista Green on 20 April and Emilie Lierre on 17 May. Be sure to get there early to grab a drink and the best seat in the house, doors and bar open at 7:30pm.
Join us for our upcoming Theatre performances ranging from 19th-century true crime, comedies, accidental ghost stories and a colourful depiction of a 20th century artist. You will be captivated by these performances in our one-of-a-kind historic Courthouse. Be sure to get there early to enjoy a drink and secure your seat for our evening performances, doors and bar open at 7:00pm.
