Edward Thomas Literary Festival

South Downs Open

South Downs Open includes nearly 150 artworks by over 100 artists, including paintings, drawings, artist’s prints, photography, sculpture textiles and ceramics. Phillip Jennings in The Canterville Ghost Halloween Productions and Family Days
Grab your broomsticks and get ready for bone-chilling events at Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery! Kicking off with the anthology stage show featuring some of the greatest tales of terror produced by the haunting team at Don't Go Into the Cellar, join award-winning actor, Jonathan Goodwin, in Ghouls' Gallery (19 October). For something on the lighter side, and to be enjoyed by all audiences age 7+, brace yourself for laughter and the supernatural in Oscar Wilde's The Canterville Ghost staring Phillip Jennings (2 November).

Get the whole family involved in the Halloween spirit with our Halloween Family Fun Day (26 October) and Toddler Takeover XI: Pumpkin Party (28 October). We open our galleries to all goblins, witches and ghouls for your little ones to enjoy the Museum and Art Gallery. You will find crafts, storytelling sessions, traditional games and discos for everyone to have fun during the spooky season.

We are delighted to welcome singer-songwriter TOBIAH for a spellbinding evening of songs and stories from her acclaimed album, Are We Angels. TOBIAH will also be performing new music from her next record, with foot-tapping interludes from twice All-Ireland award-winning piano accordionist, Colette O’Leary.

A.D. Scruffs is a Soul, Roots & Americana band hailing from Bristol, with a foot-stomping collection of original songs and a storming stage presence from Jake A.D. and Willygoat Scruff. From the chiming of the mandolin, the frailing of the banjo and the slide of the dobro, you’ll find yourself lost in the soundscape.

Christmas Events for the Whole Family

Santa reading a story the holiday season at Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery with returning favourite events and Christmas classics. Back by popular demand, we will be hosting Alder Valley Brass during our Carols in the Courtyard (7 December) as we sing in the season in our historic courtyard. Join novelist Charles Dickens as he brings to life one of the most famous ghost stories of all time in A Christmas Carol (11 December), suitable for audiences age 11+. Delight in the joys of the season with the whole family for our Toddler Takeover XII: Santa's Crazy Christmas (21 December) as we open the galleries for your little ones to have fun with festive crafts, Dasher's Dance Disco, wintertime play in the courtyard and story time with Father Christmas.
